On June 2nd, 2015, UK’s largest student union decided to boycott Israel for its barbarism while a band of significant number of British Universities condemn the boycott with the view that academic boycotts are detrimental to academic freedom.
According to group of 133 British Universities, the board of UK Universities deals with the freedom for exchange of ideas between universities and academics irrespective of what notion they are or what locality they belong from and as such the board strictly condemns the idea of academic boycotts for being inimical to academic freedom UK has prevailed all these years.
The National Union of Students (NUS) in UK comprising millions of students across various British Universities is the largest student union in UK. On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, the body passed a resolution to affiliate with the global boycott and sanction movement against Israel.
Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, took a serious offense on the act and said that it was another try to single out and corner the Jews which is hypocritical as NUS had refused to follow the resolution to condemn the Islamic Terror group.
Deputy U.K. Ambassador to Israel, Rob Dixon, showed UK’s criticism against the irrational decision, as taken by the British government, and he pronounced that Great Britain has profound interests in flourishing trade and business ties with Israel and strictly disapprove of the resolution and boycott.
